Many Dutch artists, poets, and architects were discussing new and abstract art in magazine “De Stijl”, founded in 1917 by Theo van Doesburg. This magazine turned into an art movement where all naturalistic art was rejected. De Stijl artists felt that the true purpose of art is not to just reproduce what they see, but to catch its essential form, which could only be expressed in pure, geometric forms like squares. The square is the main theme of Dyvsign’s STL Collection as an ode to De Stijl.
The "STL" of Dyvsign's STL Collection does not only stand for De STijL, but a .STL-file is also a file format widely used for 3D printing. It describes only the surface geometry of a three-dimensional object, which leads us right back to the principles of De Stijl.
